A very common repro muffler has an embossed part number on the bottom of the muffler that is similar to H4J301. These mufflers have the nose (entrance) piece bent back too far. It will probably take an oxy-acetylene torch to heat up the bend enough to straighten it up, even with a pipe put in the nose section to get leverage.

I am doing some research on old mufflers. If anyone has a muffler like I describe, please let me know what number is embossed on it. Thanks, Richard Lorenz
