problem. There are two places where the rod passes through grommets. Depending on the alignment with the carb, these can be binding points. Pull the choke rod all the way out and hold it if it won't stay out by itself. Lub the shaft just inside/above the firewall and again just above the top bracket. Be liberal with the lube! I use silicone grease that I got for my distributor cam. Then work the rod in and out a few times to lubercate the gromets. You may have to do this a second time. It worked for me and every few years or so I do it again as part of routine lubrication process.
