I mostly agree with Jon. I converted our 31 standard coupe in 94. Though I'm a bodyman it was a hell job getting things to line up, probably because of reproduction hinges.

I wouldn't do it again. Everybody wants to ride in it, adults included. What bothers me the most is when people try to get in, they pull back on the rumble lid and its not good having people step all over the fenders and seat getting in.

The original deck lid doesn't have the built in D nuts for the hinges. and with some of the repro change over kits you get no parts or instructions to allow for this. In my case we first installed the hinges to the lid with self threading bolts, big mistake. My rather large, grown nephew rared back so hard that he tore some of the bolts loose. I really had to hold back to keep from throttleing him. The result was I had to remove it and use a special tool and install threaded tube nuts 1/4 by 20. This has held good for the past 16 years. Another couple of obstacles are you have to cut holes for the lock and handle and they have to be just right or you could end up S O L. You will have a large hole to cover where the trunk handle was removed. I have seen rubber plugs used to fill this opening but it makes it o b v i o u s that its not original and has been converted. Body filler or fiberglass won't work well filling holes that large. You will also need to replace the handle or weld on an extension. The shaft on the trunk handle is too short. Just a few things to think about. Good luck.
