Joe,the only titles required in N.H.are for cars 15 years and newer. If you buy a 17 year old car and the seller gives you a title, when you hand it over to register it they destroy it.Titles were not issued in N.H.until sometime in 1964.You don't need a verification of VIN (form TDMV 19)when registering if you can get a copy of the old registration,or,of course,an old title.A few years ago the state started allowing us to title antique vehicles,26 years old and older,by request. In this state it is kind of useless as title is not required to change hands, and the antique titles are stamped around the border, exempt vehicle, titled by request. It does make it nice for out-of-state buyers though,so I started titling mine one by one over the years.I have the old town copies of the Branham Bible,it was a book used by municipalities and the DMV back in the day to locate serial numbers on cars and trucks. It gives locations and pictures of what to look for.On the Model A it states,THE SERIAL NUMBER IS STAMPED ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE MOTOR.It shows a picture of the engine pad,and no mention is made of the frame number.VIN verication can be done by any inspection station, dealer, police officer, you have to show them where the number is on an old car. They really don't care,as long as there is a number to record, and there is no evidence of intent to defraud, they will sign the little blue paper. They are not there to inspect the car, they are only there to make sure the numbers are what you say they are.I have been through a lot of iron, and the town clerk here says I have more knowlege about registering and titling than they are given.
