I am experiencing a frustrating problem in getting my late 1930 Ford Model A Closed Cab Pickup title registered. I realize that laws/statutes vary from one State to another, but I would like to hear comments and suggestions from those who have gone through this process. I purchased my pickup out of State. It was listed for sale and titled as a 1930 pickup, however, the number stated on the title as well as stamped on the engine indicated that it was a 1929 date of manufacture. Subsequent to my purchase of this pickup, I had to replace the pickup's engine, due to a cracked block. Further, in commencing an off-frame restoration, I discovered the number stamped on the frame to be a late 1930 manufactured date. The plain, simple thing I wanted to do was to stamp the engine with the same number as stamped on the frame, resulting in a 1930 title with matching numbers on the frame and on the engine. Thus putting things back in there place(1930 title, 1930 manufacture date number on the engine, and same 1930 manufacture date number stamped on the frame). Simply enough. However, when I go to register the title on this pickup, what sounds simple is not acceptable to the NE DMV. Based on my discussions with them, it appears I have only two options - 1]Since I have changed the engine, a number would need to be assigned by them, with said number to be posted in the Model A and shown on the Title OR 2] Stamp the engine with the same 1929 number that was stamped on the old motor and now stated on the Title. Neither of these two options please me. I am searching for other possibilities, but am running out of options. How have others gotten over this DMV hurdle? Any suggestions? I see on occasion that titles are available for purchase. How does this procedure work? If a purchased title is not a NE title, law enforcement will need to make a motor/frame/vehicle inspection. So I would have to stamp the number stated on the purchased title onto the engine? Wouldn't I have to purchase a late 1930 title that describes a pickup? It would appear to me that if I could locate and purchase a Nebraska issued late 1930 Title having a pickup description, then stamp said number onto the motor, I could end up with a late 1930 pickup, with late 1930 frame and a late 1930 motor, and a late 1930 Title. However, the numbers would not match on the engine and frame. Finally, what is the going fair price for a title today? |
