You don't do this on the engine.You hold the pulley in one hand with the pump hanging down and smack the end of the tool with a 3 pound hammer.Hold it over something that the pump can fall on without hurting it.I have an old head nut welded to an old head stud that I use.If you do this on the engine you are smacking the water pump shaft on the boss in the head.Not good,you could crack something.
