I use to thread a used head nut on the end of the water pump shaft until it was maybe a quarter inch from the fan and then thread the fine thread end of a used manifold stud into the head nut until it bottoms out on the water pump shaft. I would hold the fan with one hand and strike the used manifold stud with a hammer. works well, I saw this years ago in one of the national club magazines. I can't remember if it was the restorer or the model a news.
