I've installed engine pans on all of our A's and the T. Can't say as I've seen a massive difference in how the cars are operating, but I know they were there originally and I like having the cars close to original.

Not sure about the grounding aspects of the pans, particularly since mine are powdercoated, but I could see some advantage in keeping dust, debris, and water out of the engine compartment.

They're easy to install, but probably will require some fiddling to get them to fit properly.
