Why not remove the clamp that holds the column to the tank, then loosen the bolts that holds the steering box to the frame. This will allow you to drop and angle the assy. to the left. Remove the back glass and slip the light switch rod out the opening. You will need to disconnect the gas and spark rods from the column and you may need to remove the starter push rod. This should work. Good luck.
