towing your car out of gear the 3rd member will turn in the oil lubing them.

I think that the transmission gears are not spinning oil to lube the roller bearings in the shafts unless you are turning the front shaft (engine running),
or you over fill the transmission with lube while towing (makes a mess if your front and rear bearings are not sealed)
or you have an overdrive (like Michaels) that you can put in neutral (transmission will not turn)

your front spindle bearings will still wear while being towed.

I hope that some one else will chime in and agree or disagree with this, as my memory is not that good anymore.

what you think TOM MN, you out there lend me your help on this one.
