Hello,
Over the past week I have been paying attention to the posts and answers to a rotational metallic sound someone was having with their Model A. I have heard a similar sound coming from my engine.
I disconnected the fan belt and rotated the water pmp and didn't hear anything. I then started the engine and heard the sound immediately. My sound came from the lower pulley area. I drained the oil with a sieve to catch potential metal pieces.
Thank goodness there were not any. I removed the oil pan and do not see anything obviously wrong except for a bent Oil Slinger. Last season I replaced a cracked lower pulley. Maybe it got bent then?
The question is...What is the purpose of the crankshaft oil slinger?
Should I try to bend it back into a reasonable shape so it doesn't rub on the engine block?
It barely touches the block by maybe .002"
Thank you in advance for your help and suggestions.
Jim
