While I can't say anything about the brass bit - suggest you talk to anyone at the shop where you're considering getting the job done - my early '30 (29 style) tank is fitted to take a lug type cap - Anyway, I used the folks located sort of under the Tilghman Street Bridge down by the river. There had been only the one chap who took care of everything - he double dipped my tank and there was still some crud that the acid didn't fully take care of. I beat on the tank with a rubber hammer which loosened quite a bit of stuff, a little at a time. Also used a shop vac to suck up the crud - repeated, repeated, repeated. I finally 'glued' any loose stuff that remained with Hersh sealer after flushing with Hersh's (sp?) presealer stuff.
