immediately. I started a freshly rebuilt Model A engine and the water was rusty in minutes. I have a 6 HP stationary engine where the water rusted through the cylinder. Now, I'll have to have the engine sleeved.

I always use antifreeze, but for long term storage, you might want to drain it. I rebuilt a very stuck 1959 GMC 6 cylinder once for a customer, when the antifreeze leaked past the head gasket and seized the pistons.
