bent rear axle shaft threads

I just discovered that I slightly bent the threaded end of the rear axle shaft when I removed the brake drum. The nut will not go on. What is the best way to straighten the axle shaft end and preserve the threads. I do not want to replace the axle and I do not want to mess up the threads. Surely this has happened before? Thanks
