the engine enough for the speed you are going when trying to downshift. I don't downshift until I get to about 15 MPH. The ratio between 2nd and 3rd is quit a bit, so you'll have to rev the engine more than you might think when going from 3rd to 2nd. If you revved it too much, you can catch 2nd as the gears slow.
